Computational Modeling & Simulation (CM&S) has the potential to revolutionize orthopedic device design and development. Physics-based or mechanistic computational models are already speeding the design process by supplementing physical prototyping and testing. Standards bodies and FDA have paid greater attention to CM&S, and outlined guidelines on ways to use it for verification and validation along with regulatory submissions. This presentation shares practical applications of CM&S and how orthopedic companies can use it successfully, and looks ahead to future applications of the tools.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify ways to incorporate CM&S into research, development and regulatory activities
• Focus efforts on critical design inputs to save development time and cost
• Apply the tools throughout the product lifecycle to support clinical and regulatory decisions
