OMTEC OEM Awards
Celebrating OEM Excellence in Device Design, Leadership and Innovation
The OMTEC Awards were created to spotlight the remarkable advancements shaping the future of orthopedic manufacturing and patient care. We are thrilled to recognize this year’s winners, whose pioneering work is redefining excellence in the industry. Winners will be honored during an award ceremony at the Keynote Breakfast on Wednesday morning, June 18. Later in the day, representatives from the winning companies will share lessons learned and actionable advice at an engaging panel discussion, open to all of OMTEC attendees. OMTEC 2025 Award Winners
Ground Breaking Device Design – Foundation Surgical’s Vertiwedge Intraosseous device is an achievement in advanced materials, additive manufacturing and mechanical design, setting a new benchmark for motion preservation in spine surgery. As the first 3D-printed, FDA-cleared Class II device specifically designed for motion preservation, the Vertiwedge represents a milestone in adopting additive manufacturing technologies for this growing implant category. The device’s cancellous lattice structure is uniquely engineered to mimic the natural topology of cancellous bone, unlike conventional 3D-printed implants that rely on repetitive geometric patterns. This device was designed with the intention of superior biomechanical compatibility, enhanced osseointegration and optimal load distribution for improved patient outcomes.
Next-Gen Innovator – Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s VELYS Spine Active Robotic Assistance Platform was built to serve usability and form factor challenges with first-generation spinal robotic systems. The VELYS Spine platform has a number of surgeon-specific algorithms and customized third-party hardware designed to categorically advance robotic surgery. From a unique innovation perspective, the cross-industry collaboration and unique supplier build-to-buy business model has paved the way for faster and more intentional innovation by larger strategics such as J&J. With the imminent success of the platform, J&J’s unique design and commercialization approach will serve as a blueprint for how industry approaches collaborative design moving forward, ultimately resulting in faster time-to-market initiatives and faster innovations cycles.
Bold Leadership – Enovis has adopted an aggressive strategy to enter high-value market adjacencies, such as foot and ankle, augmented reality navigation and OUS regions, making it one of the most acquisitive companies in orthopedics. A steady acquisition cadence and being in the right segments with the right products catapulted the company’s reconstructive sales beyond $1 billion in 2024. Since Colfax spun off its non-medical business and rebranded it into Enovis in 2022, the company’s executive team has executed with speed and discipline, forming it into a disruptor in the space. With new product launches expected in knee, shoulder and hip replacement, as well as augmented reality, and growth projected above market average in 2025, Enovis has proven itself as a bold leader in orthopedics.
